World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

May 17th was World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. I seem to be making a habit of noticing "Days" the day after they take place, but at least it means that there is a good deal of material about the day on the website now. This is an annual event, so one could be planning for next year (it has taken place since 1969). The day "is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide." From that, and the website, you can see that the emphasis is on ICT rather than information. http://www.itu.int/wtisd/index.html
